Faster Onboarding for API Integrators
Sphere's updated onboarding defaults mean API integrators can reduce compliance steps. The result is fewer API calls, less duplicated work, and faster user activation.

Onboarding to Sphere just got faster for API integrators. If your platform already handles KYC, liveness verification, and legal agreements, those steps no longer need to happen inside Sphere. They're still required, but can now be fulfilled upstream rather than enforced in-flow. The result is faster user activation, a cleaner onboarding experience, and less duplicated work.
Your compliance work carries over
Here is what that looks like in practice. When your platform handles compliance requirements beforehand, these steps no longer need to occur inside Sphere's built-in flows:
- KYC and UBO liveness checks are satisfied via liveness report document upload rather than in-flow verification.
- Phone and email OTP is no longer required during KYC when handled by your platform.
- Terms of Service acceptance is fulfilled when incorporated into your platform's agreements with end users.
- MSA signing is fulfilled when completed with Sphere prior to onboarding.
For the full requirements and document checklist, see the Business KYB Overview.
Own the user experience
If your compliance stack handles identity verification, consent, and legal agreements before customers reach Sphere, Sphere falls into the background. You get robust payment infrastructure while maintaining full control over your user experience.
For those who need Sphere to manage any of these steps, they're available as opt-in capabilities. Reach out to your SpherePay representative to have them enabled, and we’ll handle the flow end-to-end.
